Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer Dave Blankenship has worked in all facets of Military Corrections. Using ALL external control devices available to him, he supervised 350-400 prisoners as a Guard, Assistant Brig Warden, and as the leader of the highest use of external force possible, the Cell Extraction and Removal Team Leader (CERT). Midway through his corrections career, several life altering events happened in the span of a couple of weeks and he became a Prison Counselor. The unique transformation from an expert at using external control to become a counselor certified in CTRTC, has given him a unique perspective on Dr. Glasser's theory and its use with some of the most violent and angry personel and how it works on the ground floor on a day to day basis. Many of his clients he had force cell moved with batons, handcuffs and take down procedures and in a matter of weeks was counseling those same prisoners with CTRTC. And was getting the same results (prisoners doing what they were ask) without the external control.
Dave is retired and lives in San Antonio where he is outgoing President of the Sunbelt Region of the William Glasser Institute and remains very active in the region. He spends his free time working with at-risk youth, speaking to school kids as well as students at a local college.
